Sheriff’s Office

The Sheriff’s Office is responsible for maintaining public safety and delivering comprehensive law enforcement services throughout the county. Deputies patrol both urban and rural areas, respond to emergencies, conduct criminal investigations, and engage in community outreach efforts that support crime prevention and public trust. The office also manages the county jail and oversees the registration of sex offenders and other individuals required by law to register with local authorities.

By statute, the sheriff is entrusted with serving and executing writs and other legal processes issued by lawful authority, as well as preparing and filing an annual inventory of county property in their custody. The sheriff is charged with preserving the peace, apprehending criminals, and performing all duties expected of a peace officer. The position includes the authority to appoint deputies, with the exception of certain county officials who may not serve in that capacity.

In addition to its law enforcement and statutory responsibilities, the Sheriff’s Office operates a communication center that manages both administrative and emergency calls. This center coordinates responses to incidents, dispatches resources, and ensures timely dissemination of information to the public. The office utilizes trained deputies and specialized units, such as narcotics detection dogs, to address specific challenges like drug trafficking. Through ongoing training, professional development, and meaningful community engagement, the Sheriff’s Office works to create a safe, secure environment and enhance the overall quality of life for county residents.
